Mission Statement

The purpose of Patti's Wagons is to reach Veterans and others in need, homeless, hungry and cold.   Over the course
of several years, I have provided food, clothing and supplies utilizing my vans to distribute these.   rural areas of
Humboldt - Del Norte Counties to deliver to homeless food, socks, shoes, blankets, warm clothes, tents, sleeping bags
and anything that will help those in need stay warm and out of the elements.   I am trying to provide enough provisions
to keep our homeless vets as healthy as possible.   In the process of serving and giving hope to Veterans, we also give
hope and courage to all Homeless and disenfranchised folks on the streets, in the woods and around our community.    
We are giving them Love, Hope and Encouragement and are helping them to make steps to help themselves, creating
hope and truly loving each individual, giving them the strength to go through another day.

Patti's Story

I truly believe in the miracle of the fishes and loaves nearly three years ago the first stand down was put on at Ferndale
Fair Grounds and I was involved in the kitchen.   It was a great experience and I was encouraged to see so many
Veterans helped by the services provided, and the joy and comradely the was generated there gave so much hope for
our vets.   Yet some Vets continued to live outside and with services being cut I started to meet our vets out in a parking
lot and as a result found hundreds of hungry people on the streets in Arcata.   That is how it all started. We also started
a Vets dinner for approximately three months witch brought our vets together and at first it was a great thing.   Even
though it didn't work out for that building we will be doing things like that soon with the weather improving. So many times
I have went out on total faith and there is always enough food.   Sometimes I panic but somehow there is always
enough.   One time I was asked to go out for someone to feed but when I arrived at the location there were close to 100
people and the crowd was loud and some were getting figidy.   I only had 35 SANDWICHES but somehow those
sandwiches cut in half and the soup and two cookies apiece everyone ate that showed up...even the last person that
wondered in got a sandwich and the last scrapings of the pan of soup.... and as the crowd moved away grateful and
full... there on the ground was a very tired Pete who had fallen to sleep on the cement.... some kind person had shared
their food with him...I bent down near his head and prayed for him as he slept.    This is just one of many stories that
inspires me to keep going.   Please keep us in your prayers as we serve those who we are told to serve...our own
country was built on this premise...

"Give me your tired, your huddled masses yearning to breath free.... Send these, the
homeless, tempest-tost to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."
